Radical Pairings 2 features saxophonist Ryan Muncy performing both Evan Williams’s Rock Steady and recent for loops, as well as two works for voice and DIY instruments by composer-performer Bethany Younge. Younge is joined by soprano Charlotte Mundy. This evocative program juxtaposes rhythmic virtuosity and groove with the otherworldly soundscape produced by found percussion and the human voice.

About MATA's Radical Pairings Initiative
Started in 2015, Radical Pairings juxtaposed stylistically two distinct composers and ensembles in the same concert setting, for a concert experience that transcended genre expectations. Keeping with this spirit, Radical Pairings 2021 will not only bring together two stylistically diverse composers, but will also pair older works with newly-commission miniatures, intended as companion pieces. Presented with the International Contemporary Ensemble as part of their virtual TUES@7 series, these two concerts will feature the music of 2020 MATA Festival composers Maurizio Azzan, Yvette Janine Jackson, Evan Williams, and Bethany Younge
About MATA
Music at the Anthology’s (MATA) mission is to present, support, and commission the music of early career composers. Founded by Philip Glass, Eleonor Sandresky, and Lisa Bielawa in 1996 to address the lack of presentation opportunities for unaffiliated composers, MATA has grown into the world’s most sought-after performance opportunity for early career composers: each year, MATA receives the music of over one thousand composers from all over the world through its annual Call for Submissions.
