POSITION SUMMARY
The Executive Producer (EP) implements the programs and initiatives that support the mission of the International Contemporary Ensemble. The EP leads the collaborative creation of live concerts and digital content, and education and learning activities, to ensure that the vision for any project is realized to completion.
The ideal candidate is musically literate with a deep understanding and curiosity about experimental music practices. In concert with the mission of the Ensemble and the Artistic Director, the EP supports the creation of new works by living composers from diverse backgrounds and broad stylistic and methodological approaches.
The EP supports the organization’s artistic activities with staff, creators, and Ensemble; manages the production team, including the Technical Director, Personnel Liaison & Librarian, and part-time production staff for projects; and manages artistic productions from the beginning to the end of a project, along with the Technical Director and Artistic Director. The EP leads on-site execution of concert designs in cooperation with the Technical Director. The EP will also be a key liaison with artists and presenting venues throughout a project, including negotiating presenter contract terms, conditions, and compensation levels. The EP will be expected to uphold the organization’s missions and values, ensuring that we honor the diversity of human experience and expression, and creating a thriving workplace for everyone.
This position is hybrid in person and remote, with an expectation to be available in person for rehearsals and performances throughout New York City, and in-person office meetings at our Brooklyn office. This position requires working some evenings and weekends based on the schedule of events, as well as occasional travel for out-of-town projects.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
This full-time position reports to the Executive Director and Artistic Director. The organization values collaboration, and this position will also be expected to work collaboratively across all departments to ensure that projects are executed according to their vision, and with attention to detail and quality. The EP has two direct reports: the Technical Director (full-time) and the Personnel Liaison & Librarian (part-time).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project coordination of around 40-50 productions and events annually: communicate with artists from point of first contact to after load-out, leading all communications to ensure smooth interactions with artists, presenters, and staff
Create rehearsal and performance schedules for each event, in collaboration with staff and the Ensemble
Develop and/or oversee the budgeting of productions in collaboration with Executive Director, staff, and select musicians
Coordinate production meetings as well as cross-department meetings (specifically between Development and Production); assist in creating and managing production schedules
Communicate with venue teams on production, company management, marketing, website, and tickets
Serve as primary liaison to venues and event host
Manage internal production database, including Google Drive and LUIGI
Oversee the music library with the production team
Company Management including overseeing travel, accommodation, and hospitality plans for Ensemble members and guests
Depending on the candidate’s experience with contemporary music, the person in this position may also oversee booking of personnel to gigs, in collaboration with artists and Ensemble committees
Assist Development Team with grant applications and reports, including financial reporting
Develop and oversee the execution of program and marketing materials for each show (program notes, press materials, digital content) with the Communications Manager
Qualifications
At least 3 years in a producer role at an arts organization
Ability to manage complicated communications with professionalism, a commitment to openness, compassion, and clarity
Knowledge of music, also must be able to read music. An ideal candidate will have prior experience as a musician
Experience with creating marketing strategies for concerts and storytelling for a nonprofit arts organization.
Knowledge or curiosity of the contemporary music ecosystem including presenters, foundations, institutions, history, and artists
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated financial and budgeting literacy, including budget reconciliation
Ability to navigate the difference between institutional priorities and personal priorities, and lead internal and external communications with discretion when necessary
Familiarity with synthesizing information for press releases, event descriptions, program notes, and event invites
Demonstrated ability to drive and follow deadlines
Demonstrated ability to make creative decisions to keep projects in budget
Exceptional time management, organizational, and prioritization skills
An open attitude to learning and implementing new skills
Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
Expertise in Google Suites

Many of the Ensemble’s composer-collaborators have developed highly influential careers, such as Du Yun, who won the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for the opera Angel’s Bone, which the Ensemble developed and premiered, and MacArthur Fellows Courtney Bryan and Tyshawn Sorey, winner of the 2025 Pulitzer Prize.
The Ensemble’s Digitice platform provides high-quality video documentation for artist-collaborators, as well as public access to an archive of composers’ workshops and performances. In addition, the Ensemble continues to build space for dialogue on equity, and has facilitated New Music Virtual Town Hall meetings for peer organizations and individual musicians to share resources, processes, and initiatives around equity and inclusion.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$80,000–90,000 annually, with health insurance benefits, hybrid work options, and generous office closures in the summer and winter, in addition to vacation days.
