Marketing & Communications Manager
Reports To: Executive Director (ED)
Status: Hourly, Part-time, Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY
The International Contemporary Ensemble seeks a Marketing & Communications Manager (MCM) to join the team to implement the Ensemble’s marketing and external communications strategies in support of its mission. The MCM leads the collaborative creation of digital content, online presence, and coordination with presenting partners and venues to promote and expand the Ensemble’s visibility and reach.
The ideal candidate is a musician or lover of music with a deep understanding and curiosity about experimental music practices and artistic creation. In concert with the mission of the Ensemble and the Artistic Director, the MCM leads communications efforts to help support the creation of new works by living composers from diverse backgrounds and broad stylistic approaches.
This position supports the digital presence of the Ensemble by way of managing website updates, social media planning and posting, leading process around monthly eBlasts, and gathering/creating general marketing graphics as it relates to publicity, web marketing, and more.
This is a part-time, hourly position that involves nights and weekends based on the schedule of event activity, including rehearsals, performances, and meetings. Please note that our primary office is located in Downtown Brooklyn and we are currently working as a hybrid in-person/remote staff.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
This part-time position reports to the Executive Director. The organization values collaboration, and this position will be expected to work collaboratively across all departments to ensure that projects are executed according to their vision, and with attention to detail and quality.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage website (Square Space), Instagram/Facebook and LinkTree
Create, maintain, and update website pages, including event pages, press, etc.
Lead social media planning, posting, and content creation
Lead and project manage digital storytelling initiatives (i.e. composer interviews, etc.)
Lead eBlast creation and routing for staff review
Create Press Releases with oversight from ED and Development Team
Liaising with PR Consultant
Lead cross promotion campaigns for select concerts each season
Manage marketing communications with venues and presenters
Gather marketing and program materials from composers, performers and presenters
Coordinate videographers and photographers for concerts and events
Assist in video review process of content created for digitice.org
Seasonal maintenance of the Ensemble’s profile on the Bloomberg Connects App
Attend rehearsals and events for content capture
Manage photo library and gathering photos from presenters
Work with Development Team for end of year and season asset creation
Attend weekly staff meetings
Support a creative and inspiring workspace
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have:
Knowledge or curiosity of the contemporary music ecosystem including presenters, foundations, institutions, history, and artists
Familiarity and experience with Mailchimp, SquareSpace, and Canva
Expertise in Google Suites
Fluency in social media platforms, Instagram in particular
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong graphic design skills
Understanding of marketing best practices and lifecycles
Demonstrated ability to drive and follow deadlines
Exceptional time management and prioritization skills
An open attitude to learning and implementing new skills
Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed

Described as “America’s foremost new-music group” (The New Yorker), the International Contemporary Ensemble is dedicated to supporting living composers through commissioning, developing, and premiering new works. Many of the Ensemble’s composer-collaborators have developed highly influential careers, such as Du Yun, who won the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for the opera Angel’s Bone, which the Ensemble developed and premiered, and MacArthur Fellows Courtney Bryan and Tyshawn Sorey, winner of the 2025 Pulitzer Prize.
The Ensemble’s Digitice platform provides high-quality video documentation for artist-collaborators, as well as public access to an archive of composers’ workshops and performances. In addition, the Ensemble continues to build space for dialogue on equity, and has facilitated New Music Virtual Town Hall meetings for peer organizations and individual musicians to share resources, processes, and initiatives around equity and inclusion.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$30 per hour, up to 25 hours per week.
