On November 4th, take a journey through different visual and sonic representations of textiles, panels, and touch. Nathan Davis explores geologic time with ready-to-use building materials in his sound design for an upcoming collaborative architectural installation, Planetary Home Improvement. Phyllis Chen’s Tone Grove translates Anni Albers’ weaving patterns into custom-built drum sequences, creating sounds from hand-cranked music boxes, bamboo, rice, bowls, and hands. Katinka Kleijn’s The Body as a Variable Resistor is an ever-evolving project diving into the relationship of the cello as a body corollary to our own and an environment featuring a circuit shared between a cello synth and a human body. Physical, tactile experiences become central to these works.
