If you could redesign an open call (call for scores, call for proposals, online submission) from scratch, what would it look like?
How do systems of exclusion and oppression manifest within the “open call” submission programs?
Where can there be more transparency?
How would you like to be invited?
How would you like your work to be viewed and considered?
Who would you like a panel to adjudicate your work?
What are the critical pieces of information that make you excited about applying?
In December of 2020, the International Contemporary Ensemble will invite composers from around the world to submit their existing works to our ICEcommons Artist in Residence program. We would like to include your thoughts, ideas, and feedback about open calls into the process. Please join us on Tuesday, Oct. 13th, 7pm EDT for an open forum.
The forum will be structured in two parts:
Part 1 (45 minutes): a fully open session where attendees can unmute or chat their questions to the hosts (members of the International Contemporary Ensemble).
Part 2 (45 minutes): a series of randomized meet-n-greet trios of participants and ICEensemble members designed to continue the conversation in more detail about your experiences with open submission initiatives.
The session will end with the distribution of a survey which each participant can spread to their networks of creators in sound who couldn’t attend the session on Oct. 13th.
We want to be accountable to the word “open” in our open submission systems. Thank you for helping us integrate your experiences and artistic goals into a future of ICEcommons with more equity and transparency.
