Sounds Within: An Evening of Immersive Musical Encounters
The International Contemporary Ensemble presents an interactive program featuring works by Ashley Fure, Suzanne Farrin, and Bergrun Snaebjornsdottir at Wellesley College in October. The Ensemble will work side-by-side with Wellesley students to discover Fure’s Shiver Lung and Snaebjornsdottir’s Areolae Undant. Each piece explores how immersive sound comes from both a central focus point and surround sound positions. Through participatory sound explorations and open rehearsals, students will gain first-hand experience with the program before experiencing the full, public performance.
Taking inspiration from Ashley Fure's award-winning 2017 work, The Force of Things: an Opera for Objects, the project also dovetails with the College’s new Sustainability Initiative, exploring the profound impact of environment on humanity and contemplating humanity's impact on the planet.
“At Wellesley, we’re working with faculty Jenny Johnson (assoc. prof. of music) and her students to explore how to reconfigure traditional concert halls to foster immersive, interactive, creative experiences.”
