OpenICE at Abrons: Peter Evans/Levy Lorenzo/Jennifer Curtis/Tyshawn Sorey | NIGHT 2

  • Abrons Arts Center 466 Grand Street New York, NY, 10002 United States (map)

House Special shares a double bill with superstar improviser-composers Jennifer Curtis and Tyshawn Sorey.  Spread over two nights at the Abrons Arts Center, musical fires will surely be started!

Formed in 2014, House Special is an improvisational ensemble featuring musicians from ICE (Peter Evans and Levy Lorenzo) and overlapping music scenes in New York.  Kassa Overall is a mercurial presence as a rapper, drummer, and producer (Das Racist, Vijay Iyer, Theo Croker).  Kassa and Peter are veterans of the Zebulon Trio.  Paul Wilson (also known as Bae Bro)'s work extends to playing with SZA, for whom he is musical director.  Kassa and Paul have worked together in Arto Lindsay's band.

Combing skills in composition, engineering and instrumental performance, Sam Pluta and Levy Lorenzo are at the forefront of electronic music improvisation, pushing their often-self-designed instruments into raw and visceral interactive play.  Peter Evans has also collaborated with Sam and Levy as a performer of notated works. Sam and Peter's decade-long collaboration includes several duo recordings, and touring and recording in many diverse ensembles.
