Dear Friends,
"Begin by sounding a pitch that you hear in your imagination." - The Tuning Meditation, Pauline Oliveros
Suddenly, hundreds of faces glowed in a tessellation of Zoom tiles ... an ethereal wash of spontaneous chords passing like fog ...
In April, over 600 of you, from communities across the world – Sydney, Madrid, New York – convened with us online to perform Oliveros' Tuning Meditation. Thanks to so many of your voices, we created an epic, transnational moment of solidarity, connection, and collective creativity. In the midst of an isolating and terrifying global pandemic, we lifted one another up in sound.
For almost 20 years, the International Contemporary Ensemble has been sowing the seeds to make transformative artistic experiences like this one possible. Together with our collaborators and with your critical support, we've fundamentally changed the contemporary musical ecosystem in America. Your support has made it possible for us to take the right kinds of risks, stay true to our values, and sustain a global community of artists whose work propels and challenges the way music is made and experienced.
Thank you so much. Now, as we look to the next 20 years and beyond, we're asking you to join us in a new way:
Become a monthly Sustaining Donor. Join a global community of artists, advocates, and supporters working to amplify visionary new voices in the world of contemporary music.
Whether it's by commissioning radical new work from historically underrepresented composers, hosting learning initiatives around equity and access in the new music field, or acting as a critical resource for hundreds of emerging artists building their digital portfolios, we're working every day to transform whose music is performed on the world's stages, and how it is experienced.
But, we can't do this without you. By becoming a Sustaining Donor, you empower us to be responsive, adaptive, and wildly creative when it matters most. And by contributing to the ongoing financial stability, sustainability, and resilience of the Ensemble, you help us stay focused on what matters most: music and the artists who make it.
Will you become a Sustaining Donor by making a monthly gift?
Thank you for believing in artists, and in the International Contemporary Ensemble's vision of a more curious, engaged, and equitable society through music.
With gratitude,
Eddy Kwon
