International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE)
Karina Canellakis, conductor
Tony Arnold, soprano
Gareth Flowers, trumpet
Ross Karre, percussion
Michael Nicholas, cello

Australian composer Liza Lim's Mother Tongue was inspired by the impending extinction of a native Aboriginal language. Invisibility also has its roots in Aboriginal thought, but is more practically concerned with the physical properties of the cello, using both traditional and prepared bows to unlock myriad new sonic possibilities. ICE will present both works on this concert featuring Lim's vibrant and expertly crafted music.

Liza Lim:

Ehwaz (journeying), for trumpet and percussion (2010) U.S. premiere
