ICElab Workshop at BAC | Music of Patricia Alessandrini and Carla Kihlstedt
March 31, 2012 | 3:00pm
Baryshnikov Arts Center
450 West 37th Street, Suite 501, New York
FREE
ICElab and the Baryshnikov Arts Center throw the doors open to the creative process for this public showing of new works being developed through the ICElab program.
Though the cornerstone of Carla Kihlstedt’s musical vocabulary comes from her background as a classically-trained violinist, her hydra-headed musical personality defiantly resists categorization in any genre. A dynamic and playful artistic sensibility have brought her from her beginnings as a virtuosic young classical musician, through several major US conservatories, to her dynamic recent career as a bandleader, theater artist, indie phenomenon, and experimental composer.
Patricia Alessandrini’s energetic, improvisatory works feature innovative uses of live electronics and interactive situations involving video and other media.
ICElab receives leading support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, alongside generous funding from the Greenwall Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
Carla Kihlstedt’s participation in the ICElab program is supported by the MAP Fund, a program of Creative Capital supported by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
ICE’s collaboration with Patricia Alessandrini and Juan Pablo Carreño is supported by the French-American Fund for Contemporary Music, a program of FACE with major support from the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, SACEM, Institut Français and the Florence Gould Foundation.
