November 8, 2012 | 8:00pm
Wien Modern Festival at Wiener Konzerthaus
Lothringerstraße 20
A-1030 Wien, Austria

International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE)
Jayce Ogren, conductor
Cory Smythe, solo piano

The International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) teams up with visionary Austrian composer Olga Neuwirth at the Wien Modern festival for contemporary music in Vienna. Neuwirth's music strikes an impressive balance between currency and history, between the political and the universal, and has an irreverent freshness that had made her one of the leading composers of her generation. The concert features two of Neuwirth's radical works: her virtuosic piano concerto locus...doublure...solus, and ce qui arrive for ensemble and live electronics, featuring texts by Paul Auster, Andrew Patner, and Georgette Dee.

Olga Neuwirth:

locus...doublure...solus, for solo piano, winds, brass, and strings (2001)
...ce qui arrive..., for ensemble, samples and live electronics; 3 songs on texts by Andrew Patner and Georgette Dee; fragments of text by Paul Auster (2012)

ICE’s appearance at Wien Modern is made possible, in part, by Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation through USArtists International in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
