David Bowlin, violin

Founding ICE violinist David Bowlin is a versatile performer of music both new and old, and is active as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. He has been a prizewinner in both national and international competitions, including first prize at the 2003 Washington International Competition for Strings, and has performed recitals and concertos across the U.S. He has given dozens of premieres, including the 2007 Carnegie Hall premiere of Mahagoni, a concerto written for him by Austrian composer Alexandra Hermentin-Karastoyanova. As a chamber musician, he has toured with Musicians from Marlboro in Washington DC, Philadelphia, New York, and Boston, and has collaborated with members of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in both concerts and recordings. Additionally, he was a member of the Naumburg Award-winning Da Capo Chamber Players for four years, touring extensively with them in the former Soviet Union. He has performed chamber music in most of the major concert venues in New York, including Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall and Zankel Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, the 92nd St. Y, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Miller Theater. Recording credits include both solo and chamber music on the Naxos, Bridge, Albany, Arsis, and New Focus labels.

Appointed in 2007 to the faculty of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, David previously taught at the Juilliard School from 2002-2005 as assistant to Ronald Copes. He is a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory, the Juilliard School, and Stony Brook University. Principal teachers include Ronald Copes, Roland and Almita Vamos, Pamela Frank, Philip Setzer, Ani Kavafian, and Stephen and Kimberly Sims.
